Overview
Wild Gravel presents Ride the Wild in the North York Moors.
The ultimate gravel experience, a place often referred to as “God’s own Country”. This extraordinary cycling adventure offers an enchanting mix of breathtaking landscapes, panoramic coastal views and vibrant purple heather as far as the eye can see.
Highlights:
1. Discover The North York Moors National Park in all it’s diversity.
2. Be surprised by sweeping views out to the coast.
3. Enjoy the diverse terrain from the smooth gravel along the old railway routes, to the rugged terrain on the moors. Some challenging climbs and sweeping decents.
4. The food! Great Northern food stations.
Epic Route
A challenging but rewarding 94km journey with 1,500m of elevation. Expect steep climbs, fast-flowing gravel, and hidden gems like the secluded paths behind Kildale. Ideal for experienced riders, this route is best tackled with 40-45mm gravel tyres for comfort and grip on mixed terrain.
Adventure Route
A balanced 70km adventure with 1,220m of climbing. It shares much of the Epic route’s stunning scenery and smooth gravel but offers a shorter option after the second feed station. Recommended for intermediate riders, 38-45mm tyres are a solid choice.
Classic Route
A scenic 38km loop with 735m of elevation, perfect for those seeking a taste of the moors. With manageable climbs and close proximity to the event village, this is a great introductory gravel experience. Tyres in the 35-40mm range should suffice.

Event Program
8th May:
- GPX files and a pre-ride briefing video will be sent via email to each rider, providing essential information and course details.
10th May
- 7:45 am: The Event Village at Danby Village in Danby opens. Riders can collect their ride numbers, a process that typically takes around 10 minutes.
- 8:00 am to 9:30 am: Ride start. Before setting off, there will be a short ride briefing to ensure everyone is well-informed and ready for the adventure. Riders will be released in small groups to maintain a smooth and organised start.
- 7:00 pm: The Event Village closes, concluding the day’s activities.
Additionally, on 10th May at 7:00 pm, each participant will receive an email containing a link to access ride times and rider photos. This allows riders to review their performance and relive their memorable moments from the event.

The Epic Route
As you embark on this epic route, you’ll discover a captivating blend of unique landscapes, charming villages, and fascinating historical heritage that will leave you in awe.
The journey begins in the picturesque village of Danby, serving as the perfect starting point for your adventure. From there, you’ll venture onto the wild moor and gravel tracks, towards Danby Beacon, weaving through quaint villages nestled in the Esk Valley, an interesting beck crossing, some gruelling, yet rewarding steep climbs as you ascend onto The Delves.
The open moorland stretches around Rosedale that link onto Bloworth Crossing allows you to enjoy the smooth gravel at speed, then descending down the Ingelby Incline.
Be prepared for a hidden gem as you navigate the unseen gravel paths behind Kildale, adding an element of surprise and exploration to your adventure.
So, saddle up and embark on this unforgettable gravel adventure, where challenge, endurance, and discovery merge to create an experience that will stay with you long after the ride is over.

The Adventure Route
The adventure route offers riders a well-rounded and rewarding experience, covering approximately 70k . This route follows a similar path to the long route but takes a shorter option after the second feed station, offering a slightly less demanding but equally exhilarating ride.

The Classic Route
The classic route is a scenic 38-kilometre ride. It heads towards Danby Beacon before cutting the loop short at Glaisdale. From there, it circles back towards Castleton, always staying close to the Event village throughout the loop. This route offers riders a manageable distance and a feeling of security, while still showcasing the beauty of the moors and a truly awesome gravel experience.

Are there any age restrictions for participating in the event ?
Yes, Participants must be at least 18 years old to take part in Ride the Wild.
What is the difficulty level of the different route options ?
The Epic route is the monst challenging. Covering significant distances and including demanding climbs. The Adventure route offers a slightly shorter option but still presents a good level of challenge. The Classic route provides a more manageable distance, suitable for riders seeking a less strenuous ride, or new to Gravel Rides.

- Bike Choice: We recommend a gravel bike or mountain bike. E-bikes are also allowed.
Tyre choice – Opt for 35 to 40mm fast-rolling as the gravel on the route is excellent. - Packing List: Bring self-sufficiency equipment such as, inner tubes, sealant, a multi-tool and a pump.
- Clothing: Be prepared for changing weather with layers. including arm and knee warmers, a lightweight jacket. and a MANDATORY HELMET.
